My Body, My Wisdom Movement workshop with Tripura Kashyap
Saturday, 25 February 2012 11 am - 5 pm Vadehra Art Gallery, D-178 Okhla Phase 1, New Delhi 110020 Age: 18 to 45 years Participants do not require prior training in dance. Comfortable attire for dance recommended.
This experiential workshop will use dance to befriend our bodies, to unchain ourselves from habitual movement patterns and unlock the bodies' capacity to think, feel, memorize and express better. Meditative practices using music, props, body preparatory exercises, movement energizers and relaxation techniques will be interspersed with verbal dialogue related to our bodies, its potential, conflicts and needs.
Participatory activities inspired by Yoko Ono's book of instructions Grapefruit will be explored through solos, duets, triads and group movement designs. The exploration based on metaphorical and symbolic nuances of Yoko's instructions will help participants discover and shape a fresh movement language to relate to their everyday lives and experiences.
Workshop Facilitator: Tripura Kashyap is a choreographer and movement therapist based in Delhi. Currently she is projects coordinator at Bhoomika Creative Dance Centre where she teaches, choreographs and performs with the group. She received a degree in classical dance from Kalakshetra, Chennai founded by Rukmini Devi, the visionary revivalist of Bharatanatyam. She trained in Dance/movement Therapy at Hancock Center in Wisconsin, U.S.A.
MIND Dance workshop with Nikolina Nikoleski
Wednesday, 29 February and Thursday, 1 March 2012 (two-day workshop) 4 - 6 pm on both days Vadehra Art Gallery, D-178 Okhla Phase 1, New Delhi 110020 Age: 19 years and above Participants do not require prior training in dance. Comfortable attire for dance recommended.
The mind is the starting point. Inspiration, imagination, dreams, isualization, words, poetry and song all first inhabit the mind and then push the body to follow. In this two-day workshop we will work through the process of how text and ideas ignites certain expressions within our bodies. Through improvisations we will explore the possibilities of interpreting these texts and songs through dance. There will be both solo and group work involved.
Workshop Facilitator: Nikolina Nikoleski was born in Zagreb, Croatia, learned contemporary dance in Germany at the prestigious dance school of Pina Bausch and spent the five years in India learning Bharatanatyam under tutelage of highly regarded Padmashree Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan. Nikolina has been awarded many prestigious scholarships by institutions like Indian Council for Cultural Relations for Bharatanatyam and two scholarships for contemporary dance at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen, Germany. Presently, she is a dance professor at the French Embassy School - Lycee Francais de Delhi in India and she shares her time between performing, teaching and collaborating with various artists in the creative exploration of dance, theatre and music.

A workshop where you can create poetry snapshots related to your own responses to the art works and instructions of Yoko Ono. A collaborative space to create poems from images and images from texts.
Workshop Facilitator: Maya Khosla was raised in India, England, Algeria, Burma, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. Those cultures as well as her background in biology strongly shaped her writing. Her first full-length poetry manuscript Keel Bone won the 2004 Dorothy Brunsman Poetry Prize. While working for the National Park Service, she completed Web of Water, a creative nonfiction manuscript which was accepted for publication by the Golden Gate National Park Association Press in 1997. Poetry remains her favorite genre. She has been published in Americas Review, Poetry Flash and Seneca Review and was an artist-in-residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts in 1998. Most recently, her work has been published in Water: Culture, Politics, Management (Pearson, 2010) and Rhino, (Summer 2010) and her essay Carp was a finalist in the Glimmer Train short story award (Fall 2010).
