My Body, My Wisdom
Movement workshop with Tripura Kashyap

Saturday, 25 February 2012
11 am - 5 pm
Vadehra Art Gallery, D-178 Okhla Phase 1, New Delhi 110020
Age: 18 to 45 years
Participants do not require prior training in dance. Comfortable attire for dance recommended.

This experiential workshop will use dance to befriend our bodies, to unchain ourselves from habitual movement patterns and unlock the bodies' capacity to think, feel, memorize and express better. Meditative practices using music, props, body preparatory exercises, movement energizers and relaxation techniques will be interspersed with verbal dialogue related to our bodies, its potential, conflicts and needs.

Participatory activities inspired by Yoko Ono's book of instructions Grapefruit will be explored through solos, duets, triads and group movement designs. The exploration based on metaphorical and symbolic nuances of Yoko's instructions will help participants discover and shape a fresh movement language to relate to their everyday lives and experiences.

Workshop Facilitator: Tripura Kashyap is a choreographer and movement therapist based in Delhi. Currently she is projects coordinator at Bhoomika Creative Dance Centre where she teaches, choreographs and performs with the group. She received a degree in classical dance from Kalakshetra, Chennai founded by Rukmini Devi, the visionary revivalist of Bharatanatyam. She trained in Dance/movement Therapy at Hancock Center in Wisconsin, U.S.A.

MIND
Dance workshop with Nikolina Nikoleski

Wednesday, 29 February and Thursday, 1 March 2012 (two-day workshop)

Vadehra Art Gallery, D-178 Okhla Phase 1, New Delhi 110020
Age: 19 years and above
Participants do not require prior training in dance. Comfortable attire for dance recommended.

The mind is the starting point. Inspiration, imagination, dreams, isualization, words, poetry and song all first inhabit the mind and then push the body to follow. In this two-day workshop we will work through the process of how text and ideas ignites certain expressions within our bodies. Through improvisations we will explore the possibilities of interpreting these texts and songs through dance. There will be both solo and group work involved.

Workshop Facilitator: Nikolina Nikoleski was born in Zagreb, Croatia, learned contemporary dance in Germany at the prestigious dance school of Pina Bausch and spent the five years in India learning Bharatanatyam under tutelage of highly regarded Padmashree Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan. Nikolina has been awarded many prestigious scholarships by institutions like Indian Council for Cultural Relations for Bharatanatyam and two scholarships for contemporary dance at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen, Germany. Presently, she is a dance professor at the French Embassy School - Lycee Francais de Delhi in India and she shares her time between performing, teaching and collaborating with various artists in the creative exploration of dance, theatre and music.
