MARKER 2015: LATIN AMERICA
In 2015, Marker turns its focus to Latin America, and the connections between this region and the Arab world. Curated by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, Marker will take–for the first time–a multidisciplinary approach, dwelling on its broad theme through honed, specific lines of enquiry.
The dynamic programme, located within the Art Dubai Contemporary gallery halls, will include artists' books, sound projects, performance and film, as well as drawing, painting and installation.
Luiza Teixeira de Freitas is an independent curator working between London and Lisbon, involved in curating both independent projects and private collections.
Marker is Art Dubai's curated programme of galleries and artspaces, which focuses each year on a particular theme or geography.
Yto Barrada has been announced as the winner of The Abraaj Group Art Prize 2015.
Building further on the format of recent years, The Abraaj Group Art Prize now awards the commission to one artist. Yto Barrada's newly commissioned work, produced for The Abraaj Group Art Prize, will be part of an exhibition at Art Dubai 2015, curated by Omar Kholeif.
The exhibition will also feature previous works by three shortlisted artists—Sarnath Banerjee, Setareh Shahbazi and Mounira Al Solh. Kholeif is working closely with all the artists and has the responsibility of producing an accompanying catalogue, as well as the exhibition.
Art Dubai's Open Call for applications from galleries looking to exhibit in the Contemporary halls closes today. Art Dubai Contemporary includes 70 galleries, from the world's most established to dynamic young spaces from across the globe.
The 2015 Selection Committee includes guest member Kate Fowle, chief curator for Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow and Director-at-Large at Independent Curators International (ICI) in New York.
Art Dubai is delighted to welcome curator Bisi Silva as a member of the Art Dubai Modern Selection Committee. Art Dubai Modern is devoted to masters from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, with galleries highlighting artists whose work has proven highly influential during the twentieth century.
Silva joins an advisory board made up of renowned curators and historians including Savita Apte, Catherine David, Kristine Khouri and Nada Shabout.
