Twenty million people of Indian origin shifted countries in the 20th and 21st centuries. Implicit in the term Diaspora are the concepts of change and adaptation. Cultural dislocation generally produces unexpected and powerful results. Subject matter is often drawn from the country of origin, while many of the aesthetic values and political concerns come from the artists newfound situations. Included in the exhibition is Antonio Puri who has promoted his work with a Portfolio at absolutearts.com since the websites' inception in 2000. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Walter King : Argentina Remembered - Reprised Watercolors from Cordoba and Salta Provinces Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, OH USA United States of America Columbus College of Art and Design is proud to present Sabbatical Exhibitions Fall 2009, which comprises three exhibitions, shown simultaneously, of work completed during recent sabbaticals by CCAD faculty. Over the past three months, this group has engaged in an interactive process of theory and practice in exploring the essential requirements of how to make it big in the art world. These light effects appear to be the fleeting traces of spectral presences, producing in the black space of the background images that are familiar yet surreal at the same time. They recall ghost ships, atomic mushroom clouds, stellar spaces and galaxies located in a remote and mysterious universe, permeated not only with magic realism but also solitude. Or else they may seem to be evanescent fragments of a dream and imagined realities emerging from our inner depths, where the most secret passions dwell. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com | | Call for Curators : 2010 EMILY HALL TREMAINE EXHIBITION AWARD Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, Meriden, CT USA United States of America The Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation is offering curators, in partnership with an established non-profit exhibition space, the opportunity to be awarded the 2010 Emily Hall Tremaine Exhibition Award -- a grant of up to $150,000 for the realization of an innovative thematic exhibition concept that challenges the boundaries of contemporary art. Did you know on an average week I may be approached by as many as 20-35 artists looking for gallery representation? Most of them are ineffective. Are you making the same mistakes they are? Before I explain, let me introduce myself. My name is Jason Horejs. I have owned Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona for more than eight years. Several years ago, I began to wonder why artists were inept talking to galleries. I quickly realized most were unsuccessful because there is very little information explaining the best strategies. That lack of information often leads to these blunders: Mistake #1: Presenting an inconsistent body of work. Artists generally love their freedom. They want to experiment. They love a challenge. They crave variety. All good things, except when you are presenting your work to a gallery.
