A brand new, special exhibition arrives at Tate Liverpool this spring, Afro Modern: Journeys through the Black Atlantic. Featuring diverse works by a wide range of artists, this exhibition offers a fresh and alternative 'transatlantic' interpretation of art from the early twentieth century to today. From Picasso to Man Ray, Kara Walker to Chris Ofili and Ellen Gallagher to Jean Michel Basquiat, this exhibition features a wide variety of artists and offers a fresh and alternative interpretation of their work for a new generation.

We would like to invite you to a day of glamour at Tate Liverpool to celebrate the opening of Afro Modern. On 30 January, the award-winning Liverpool Samba School will take to the floor, performing an extravagant spectacle of music and dance. They will be accompanied with an epic story of survival, slavery and spirit portrayed by the Liverpool Manchester Capoeira in a stunning combination of self-defence, gymnastics and dance.

On 14 January, Birkenhead-born Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey will be at Liverpool Hope University discussing the impact growing up on Merseyside has had on his work. Leckey, whose work spans collage, music and video, draws on the club culture of the 70s and 80s.
