| The International Sculpture Center (ISC) will hold it's 22nd International Sculpture Conference – What is Sculpture in the 21st Century? in London, UK next month from April 7-9, 2010. Bringing sculptors from all over the globe together, this year's event will focus on the evolution of the definition of sculpture and what this term means today. This two and a half day event is expected bring together ISC members and non-members including artists, arts administrators, curators, patrons, museum directors, educators, and students for panels, dialogue and networking. The ISC, which began hosting sculpture conferences over 50 years ago, selected London as the location for it's first conference outside of North America, because of it's outstanding and vibrant setting for members of the international sculpture community to meet, network, and converse on what sculpture is during this inaugural international event. "The ISC's 22nd International Sculpture Conference promises to be a monumental occasion", said Johannah Hutchison, Executive Director of the International Sculpture Center. "It offers an exceptional international forum for sculptors and members of the art community to network and exchange ideas, as well as bring the ISC to the European and world community in an unprecedented way." Highlights of the conference include keynote talks by Antony Gormley, Peter Noever, and Lucy Orta; an international roster of presenters; events at Tate Britain and Tate Modern; workshop demonstrations at the University of Arts, Chelsea College of Art and Design; opportunities for artists to share their work during daily ARTSLam sessions, networking activities, and a gallery "hop". Attendees may also sign up for optional tours including visits to alternative art spaces in London, a trip to Cass Sculpture Foundation at Goodwood, and a post-conference weekend event at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield. Additionally the ISC will host it's 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award Gala dinner honoring this year's winners Phillip King and William Tucker in conjunction with the conference. Events will be held in participating venues around London including Chelsea College of Art & Design, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the National Gallery, and Kings Place. "Sculpture is an important language for artists and for centuries has been a public manifestation of the importance of creativity and expression," said Chris Wainwright, President of the University of the Arts London, the major collaborator of the ISC Conference. "In our contemporary climate with a growing application of technologies the possibilities for sculpture, however we chose to define it, are endless. The 22nd International Conference is of particular importance to our creative education environments as we continue to support and celebrate sculpture which requires a commitment to providing suitable resources including space itself as a key ingredient." Registration is open and available to ISC members and non-members. The registration deadline is March 16, 2010 or when capacity is reached.
