![]() "I am pleased that The Hurt Locker by Kathryn Bigelow, which won 6 Oscars, was selected to make its world premiere in the 2008 competition at the Venice Film Festival, unlike the other two films that this director had presented previously at the Festival, but out of competition: Strange Days (1995) and K-19: The Widowmaker (2002). Naturally we are sorry that The Hurt Locker did not win an award in Venice, but we must abide by the principle of the independence of international juries, which is a fundamental tenet for all great Film Festivals".
