Fwd: Journey through the Black Atlantic

Afro Modern

Friend,

Join us this February as we journey through the Black Atlantic.  In celebration of our new exhibition, we have initiated Liverpool and the Black Atlantic - a city-wide series of exhibitions and events that will explore the impact of Black cultures from all around the Atlantic on art and artists over the last hundred years.

On Thursday 18th, join us for Foreign Language Oscar and Palm d'Or winning film, Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus). Set in Rio, the story follows Orpheus, a Brazilian tram driver, who seduces the beautiful Eurydice through his musical charms.

Our exploration of the Black Atlantic continues on Friday 19th with Global Exhibitions: Contemporary Art and the African Diaspora, a symposium that gathers together artists, curators, art historians and cultural critics to unravel the complexities of exploring the art of the African diaspora.

Also this month showing as a part of Liverpool and  the Black Atlantic we have African Soul Rebels at the Liverpool Philharmonic, Nigerian-born artist Leo Asemota opens The Handmaiden at Metal, Edge Hill, and artist Sonia Boyce's multi-media installation 'Like Love' continues at the Bluecoat.
