Photo: Stuart Bunce. *Tonight* Amanda Beech in Conversation with Robin Mackay Tuesday 09 February, 6pm Come and join Amanda Beech in conversation with Robin Mackay, editor of Sanity Assassin, the reader, published by Urbanomic to coincide with the first showing of this work at Spike Island. The publication itself articulates a narrative through the art work in its research, construction and conclusion. Three informal parts bring the images, texts and ideas through which the work was developed together with new points of discussion and allow reflection on the work's subject matter and contexts. As well as research images and stills from the video work, the book includes two extended discussions between Beech and artist and writer Jaspar Joseph-Lester, and texts by Suhail Malik, Ray Brassier and Robin Mackay. Sanity Assassin, the exhibition, will remain open until 6pm today so come and see the show before this event. Sanity Assassin, the book, is a limited edition of 300, is available to buy at £17.00 + P&P. For further information visit: www.spikeisland.org.uk. Sanity Assassin, Amanda Beech
Exhibition runs until 6 April Tuesday to Sunday 11am-5pm "Great show, sexy chainsaws", "This is the third time I've seen it, I'm getting addicted!", "Great. Very cinematic, beautiful". Sanity Assassin is a three-screen video installation with a sculptural element. A spotlit mirrored plinth displays a series of polished chainsaws situated in a custom designed waiting area; a glamorous structure with subliminal horror movie overtones and an homage to the corporate lobby of a Los Angeles showroom. Beyond this, the video installation embodies another violence. Hard edged, uniform edits guide us through a private and nocturnal LA landscape and are set to a pulsating noise score. Sanity Assassin is part of Beech's on-going investigations into the forceful rhetoric played out within neo-liberal narratives of freedom in philosophy, politics, architecture and popular culture. | *Coming up*
